Have you ever wondered what your mind will be like when you are in Heaven? The Bible is packed with wonderful promises about your future inheritance. God has promised to “make all things new” (Revelation 21:5). That includes your soul. He will supernaturally transform your heart, mind, will, and emotions to be perfectly conformed to your Savior’s (1 John 3:2).

1 John 3:2
“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.”

God’s plan is to restore you to the original image in which He created the human race: His own image. That image has been marred through sin, which is why we now struggle with ungodly desires, thoughts, and motivations. We experience forgetfulness, confusion, and a wide range of mental health issues.

In the beginning, however, Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, had pure, innocent minds. They had a great capacity to understand, to create, and to remember. Adam was able to easily name all the animals…and remember their names.

If you have trusted in Christ as your Lord and Savior, God has already begun the process of restoring you to the original image. By the power of His Spirit, He has made you a “new creation” in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). He has given you His Spirit and His Word so that you may be “transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).

Now you are waiting for your inheritance, the culmination of your salvation. At Christ’s return, you will receive a new glorified body and a transformed soul like Christ’s (Philippians 3:21; 1 John 3:2). These two changes are necessary to fit you to live forever with God in “a new heavens and a new earth” that are free from sin and its curse (2 Peter 3:13).

Your heart, mind, will, and emotions will be perfectly conformed to your Savior’s. But what does that mean? Let’s look at several Scriptures that describe how our transformed soul will be different from our earthly soul.

Purity – 1 John 3:2-3
“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”

Christ is pure, and we will be pure, free from ungodly thoughts and a tendency to sin. We will always honor and glorify God in our thoughts, words, and actions. Sin will no longer hinder our fellowship with God. We will have confidence in His presence and enjoy sweet, unbroken, fellowship with Him.

The new earth will be free from “uncleanness”. There will be no one and no thing that are sinful, or that would tempt us to sin (Revelation 21:27).   Satan and all who are ungodly will be judged and thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10-15; 21:8).

Peace and Joy– Revelation 21 and 22; Psalm 16:11
Imagine your mind filled with peace and joy at all times. God is the God of peace (Philippians 4:9). There is nothing in the new earth that will cause worry, anxiety, or fear. There will be nothing to cause discouragement or depression – no more night, death, crying, or pain.

Revelation 21:3-5
“And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.’”

God promises that “the former things will not be remembered or come to mind” (Isaiah 65:17). We will dwell on “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute”, whatever is excellent and “worthy of praise” (Philippians 4:8). We will experience fullness of joy.

Psalm 16:11
“You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”

Fullness of Knowledge – 1 Corinthians 13:12
“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.”

God is all-knowing, and He knows us perfectly (Psalm 139). The Bible is clear that we will never be all-knowing as God is. That is one of the characteristics of deity. However, we will experience a new fullness of knowledge – as much as we will need and want.

Health and Well-Being
With a new body full of life and energy, our minds will never be dragged down by fatigue or physical chemical imbalance. We will experience permanent, total heath and well-being. We will be able to focus, think clearly, and stay alert at all times.

What Do You Think?

Do you have assurance that Jesus is your Lord and Savior, and that you will go to be with Him in Heaven someday? If so, I encourage you to fix your hope on His return and on the wonderful inheritance that will be yours. I encourage you to renew your mind with God’s Word so that you will be able to put 1 John 3:3 into practice: “And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”
